Using the semi-unpredictable nature of film, I move intuitively with my subject, often women in
hyper-feminine or surreal settings, to capture moments of deep reflection, transcendent joy, and
sharp anguish. Through universal symbols, I bring undertones of grief, sensuality, comfort, and
bitterness to the fore, using both subject and symbol as reflections of one another. Because of
this, each image causes hesitation in the viewer, gently prodding them to be present and to break
free of typical thought. Through photography, I want to explore how far into the obscure I can
delve while still conjuring relatability in women. How healthy is it that we can see ourselves in
every image, and do we do this to not feel “left out”?
